Many people claim to be Bourbon experts. Did you know there’s a certification program to prove it? The Stave & Thief Society is an in-depth training program for the world of American whiskey.
Wine has Sommeliers. Beer has Cicerones. And now, Bourbon has Stewards. You know the differences between Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rye. But do you know enough to be certified in Bourbon? Now you can find out. The Stave & Thief Society offers the world’s only industry-recognized Bourbon certification program.
906 Cocktail and Cigar Lounge is the first Lounge in Arkansas to become a Stave & Thief Society Establishment Member as such we can hold the Certified Bourbon Steward classes under the direction of our Executive Bourbon Steward Paul Brandt.
LEARNING OUTCOMES – You will be able to:
- Understand the differences in the types of whiskeys and how to identify them based on Labeling Descriptions.
- Explain the basic science of the distillation process.
- Define and explain the different bourbon classifications such as Bottled in Bond, Small Batch, and Single Barrel and be able to identify bourbons belonging to each class.
- Identify basic differences in proof, age and mash bill in a blind sensory evaluation.
- Understand the distillation and aging aspects of bourbon.
Upon successful completion and passage of the on-line exam you will be certified and receive Lifetime Membership in the Stave & Thief Society.
As well as a lapel pin that visibly designates you as a Bourbon Steward.
Class size is Limited to 20 Participants. A Smartphone or Tablet is needed to take the online exam at the end of the class and to access the Official Bourbon Steward Handbook.
A physical copy of the Official Bourbon Steward Handbook will be available during the class.
Classes are approximately 2.5 hours and include 4 (1oz pours) of selected bourbons.
A non-refundable Deposit of $25.00 is required. The deposit goes towards the total cost, failure to attend will result in the loss of the deposit.
Price per person – $25.00 Deposit + $125.00 due on the day of the training.
